Make No Sound (feat. Nate Bergman)

about

Fellowcraft's third single of their upcoming new LP, This Is Where You’ll Find Me. “Make No Sound”, features Nate Bergman (Lionize) on guest vocals. It's a bluesy song with an R&B soul, especially through the hook. The track was written during the prolonged isolation caused by the COVID-19 quarantine, with the band’s members sharing their prospective parts with each other through email, text messages and video chats. The aggressive instrumentation and drums create an interesting juxtaposition with the introspective lyrics about life in social isolation, and the delicate struggle that exists between self care and social interaction.

“I wrote this song as a commentary on the Covid-19 quarantine. I wanted to showcase what it felt like as time moved on, and on, almost endlessly. There’s hope, confidence, and strength in the verses, but the song sort of falls sad, and laments into the chorus with feelings of depression, loneliness and isolation. It’s rather fitting, considering what we’ve all been through ” said Jon Ryan MacDonald (lead vocals/guitar).

The final track was recorded in the middle of quarantine at Ivakota Recording, with the help of Mexican rock producer Tonio Ruiz (QBO, Coda, Agora, Jet Jaguar). Ivakota is owned by the locally-renowned producer Ben Green (Loud Boyz, Milo In The Doldrums, Ex Hex) and is located in the heart of Capitol Hill in Washington DC.

lyrics

Well, the fire is raging, they say the world’s gone crazy - That the people are blameless, but I ain't gonna take this - Nothing gonna phase me - I keep trying not to blame me, It’s hard enough to be lazy - Hold on to your loved ones, sing ‘em to sleep, and drink yourself crazy
You see, time’s a flat circle, and what’s been will be
We believe in the future, But the past is so fucking hard to see - This shit’s a volcano, And it’s about to blow - When the bottoms falls out, ain't nobody gonna know where to go
I keep breaking my hands, I keep paying my bills
I keep breaking my heart, I keep on mending my will
I wanna be like a lion, all rev’d up to roar - So when the world burns, I wont wonder if I should've tried some more - Try’n to explain everything, been afraid of anything - Got too much to lose, nothing but shit loads of time to spare
I keep breaking my hands, I keep paying my bills
I keep breaking my heart, I keep mending my will
I’ll wait and hope, I’ll sit down and pray
I won’t make a sound, I won't go away
Listen close we’re in freefall, baby. Ain't no need to be afraid.
When the tree falls alone, will anyone know its name
